Kaiju Attack tips and tricks

Kaiju Attack by Game Stew can get rather tricky, especially as Kaiju levels increase. Which is why I wrote this handy little guide to help. Regardless of how far through you are, you’ll find a useful tip or two here. You should also keep an eye on each country’s area abilities, which can help you progress.

The board is a city

Think of each board as a city grid, where each square is a block. You’re organising the defense of the city by directing survivors, mobilising the army, and prioritising power across the grid.

Each Kaiju is unpredictable and dangerous and there’s no way of knowing what they’ll do, but you’ll have to adapt and react on the fly. That is to say: beyond knowing their general move and attack patterns, every Kaiju moves and attacks randomly. Sometimes the best you can do is hope and pray that it won’t take out all your survivors in one move.

Swap any tiles

Any tile can be swapped

You can swap any tile on the board, not just the ones next to each other. This isn’t a match-three, after all, but secretly a merge game.

Embrace defeat

As Kaiju levels increase, they become more deadly, and you’re going to lose a round or two. Probably right around level 7. Sometimes it’ll also feel sudden and unfair. That’s okay though! If you lose a round, try again.

You’ll get a fresh board with different tiles popping up every turn, and you might just breeze through the battle. Try and change up your strategy too, and if you’re really struggling, use the frozen tank.

Bigger isn’t always better

Sometimes not combining tiles is better, especially when you’re low on a specific resource. Take houses and power, for example: three level-3 buildings would get you nine power, but combining them into a level-4 would only get you four. This is especially useful if you only have one move left.

The exception to this are survivors; which brings us to the next point…

Survivors = health

You only lose city health when survivors are attacked. Keep the number of survivor tiles low and you’ll take less damage from Kaiju. If you’ve got a lot of survivors, try to combine as many as you can. It’s also okay to sacrifice a couple…

Unlock all secret weapons

Soooo… I didn’t do this, but wish I did. Unlock every secret weapon first and try them out. Some are situational and some are flat-out better than others, but you won’t know which is which until you try them out!

Essentially, don’t do what I did where you play through a Kaiju until level 7, unlock a new secret weapon and think “oh… this could have been so much easier”.

Keep your board balanced

Why have a board full of army units, if they don’t have the energy to shoot? This can be tricky with random luck of the draw, but it does help.

If you fail to plan…

Whenever possible, pre-plan your next move. Did you run out of energy last combat? Focus on buildings next time. Low on health? Prioritise survivors.

This also applies to every tile swap. When you have options to choose from, take the one that sets up your next match.

Create combos

Especially during your first three turns. Try to swap tiles in a way that gives you multiple matches at once.

Upgrade special weapons

Upgrading your army tiles is mostly pointless. An extra 2% chance to deal double damage is far less useful than a stronger special, so prioritise upgrading your special weapon first.

Go somewhere else

Some Kaiju are more difficult than others. Don’t force yourself to keep trying and failing a high level Kaiju, especially when you don’t even get upgrade points for trying. Drop its level if you must, or try a different location and upgrade your special weapon more. Or use the freeze ray.
