The Guides is coming soon. Here’s why you should care!
I’ll be honest here – I’m not much for writing press releases. Even having written a couple for PR purposes, what I love and do best are guides, the entire reason for this site’s existence. If I ever write about an upcoming game it’s because I’m genuinely excited. So here I am, talking about The Guides, an upcoming game by Luke Lisi and Kevin Bradford. I was extremely fortunate to get an early copy of the game and spend some time with it. Let me describe how my day went:
It’s morning. I download the game with the intent of giving it a go and writing this very post.
I look up and it’s night time outside.
Everything about the game, absolutely everything is engaging and attention-grabbing. From the moment I launched and cryptic lines on the screen assembled into the title as subtle, haunting music played in the background, I was hopelessly hooked. You are presented with a puzzle, solving which leads on to a brand new puzzle and so on. That’s the progression, and it is nothing short of wonderful. The thing I immediately thought of was solving the Glyph puzzles in the Assassin’s Creed series, except actually fun.
It’s hard to quantify an experience, because ultimately that’s what The Guides is – an experience where you get out as much as you put in. This would be the only reason not to get the game – if you don’t like or are unwilling to spend a little time reading and engaging with the world and setting inside the game, all you’ll get out are a series of difficult puzzles. Looking up a guide (like the one we’ll have up post-release) and blasting through the puzzles is not the way to play and will deprive you of the joy and excitement of discovering the solution in a sea of extraneous information.
The Guides is enthralling, magical and absolutely worth experiencing for yourself on August 17th. Keep an eye out for more content around the site coming soon!
